Welcome to my new home! I think this deserves a house-warming. Or a plant. Maybe a handmade card? Well I for one, am very excited about my new home. My husband is too, this is a little project we’ve been collaborating on and enjoying it! This is another step forward for me, really getting my teeth stuck into something that is outside my roles of wife and mother. It is still very much a work in progress though as I learn a bit more each day so it will develop over time. Also you may notice a shop page…that is still a way off as yet, but I’ll get there. I have challenged my husband with getting rid of all the cyan blue from the website as I don’t like it and replacing it with my teal colour. The little triangle underneath the page heading is proving stubborn – who knew the world of programming was full of [boring] little intricacies (If you are yawning already, I empathise)!!!
This morning was Daddy’s time to… ahem …reconnect with the children after his week at work, with the added bonus of a little peace for yours truly (not the main reason for me sending them all out of the house as soon as the sun came up, honest). Plus the boys know Daddy doesn’t say no to anything so they ate ice creams in the rain! Thank goodness for modern marriages, that’s all I’ll say. I couldn’t have been a 50’s wife that’s for sure. A decade or two ago I didn’t think I’d ever get married, I had quite a feminist mentality, but mellowing with age and online dating changed all that. I’ll share that story at a later date!
I made two cards last weekend for our nephew and a friend’s son, although a bit short on time as August is a busy month for birthdays, I was able to cheat a little by using pre-coloured stamped images (on a die-cut sheet) that I bought at the LOTV shop in Farsley. They are coloured by Bev Rochester and are superb.
This was a perfect opportunity to use my Memory Box auto-parts die (Boy Oh Boy!) which I’m sure any boy would love on a birthday card. I was also able to make use of Craftwork Cards Alphabet stamps designed for use with their Card Candi (who doesn’t love a bit of Card Candi?) to personalise the cards. I found them a bit tricky at first as they are sooo small but after a bit of practise and a few Candi’s in the bin, I managed to improve my technique. Here’s a closer look at the images:
I also managed another birthday card, but completely cheated this time using Dragonfly Dance (Club Hunkydory free gift). Hunkydory produce some really beautiful sets but it leaves me feeling like I had nothing to do with the card creatively, because all you do is put together what they have already matched up.
Anyway dragonflies aren’t too dissimilar from butterflies in terms of card appeal so I personalised it with a Happy Birthday ribbon, letter tiles, added my own little touch on the insert:
LOTV sentiment stamp with Versamagic purple hydrangea and dragonfly punch in matching colours. Lastly I lined the envelope:
Which works to transform a plain envelope into a beautiful one.
That’s all from me today, I’m off to discuss web safe fonts versus the ones I actually like, with my other half.
Hope you all like the new site and enjoy your BH weekend,
